Local District West excitedly awaits its 3rd annual College Signing Day event this upcoming May 3rd at K-12 schools throughout Local District West.

In line with the former First Lady’s Reach Higher Initiative—to increase a college going culture at American high schools and to acknowledge academic pursuits with the same pomp and circumstance that is usually reserved for athletic college signing days, College Signing Day has presented students with a platform to assert their college and career goals proudly and publicly as they proceed onward toward their postsecondary college and career choices.

Initiated by LD West Administrator of Instruction Dr. Darnise Williams five years ago in order to address and recognize our student’s postsecondary goals, the bus tours that visit varying schools and dovetail at a culminating event at one of our area high schools has brought smiles and joy to our students.  Says Williams, “It is really moving to see the impact of a delegation of visitors to cheer and encourage onward our students as they spread their wings to leave the confines of their supportive schools.”

All schools: elementary, middle, and high schools are encouraged to participate.  Dr. Williams adds, “raising awareness of college acceptance and entrepreneurial endeavors is critical to establishing a platform for students and families to create a college and career profile while seeking viable options beyond high school as early as elementary and middle school.
